OK Go

There’s this group that decided they’d do a music video. The catch was, they’d do it all in one take. No cutting, stopping, splicing, etc. I think their first video used only one camera. Others mimicked it, and some did a really good job (utilizing more than one camera, but the motion was non-stop and in one take).

Well, this group, OK GO, has come out with a new one. It’s heavy on the adopt a dog propaganda, but the dogs are CUTE!

Free music freely (and legally)

So for all of you classical music people out there (of which there are a great number, only a few who read my blog), this site will be very interesting to you:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/Musopen/record-and-release-free-music-without-copyrights

It is set to release the Beethoven, Brahms, Sibelius, and Tchaikovsky symphonies for free, no copyright on the recordings, etc. What does this mean? Aren’t these symphonies already free? Of course they are… if you have the money to buy the paper and print it out, or the money to take an orchestra wherever you go. But when you buy a recording on a CD, it is not free to put it into another work (such as a video or music of your own making). What this group is going to do is release the music free, gratis, no charge to use it however you like. Share it with friends, share it with enemies, share it on your website, in your theater, on your video.

So, anyway, I thought it was interesting

NObama and Jimmy Carter Part 2

Okay. So we’re going to stop all offshore drilling and exploration of oil. Can anyone say gaslines? Can anyone say Jimmy Carter part 2? I knew you could.

Essentially what (n)Obama is doing is saying there was a death due to a tonsilectomy… we will do no more tonsilectomies, we will hire no more doctors to due tonsilectomies.

So where do we go? We have to go international and import our oil… oh, wait, Cap & Tax bill. Not to let a good disaster go unpoliticized even more, he declared the importance of getting this new tax rammed down our throats. Goodbye economy!

It is utterly important to vote the Democrats out. With the Sestak thing in the open now, there is strong evidence for impeachment. The Democrat politicians will not proceed on this, so we must vote them out.

One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen… (I want one, a smaller version, but, yeah.)

!Broken! iBorked!

Okay, here’s a geeky story. So, I was called to try and figure out why this person’s computer would not start up sometimes. And when it did start up, it would only run for a little while before it shutdown. Normally, when you get something like this the steps for checking stuff out would be:
1. Loose connection on the power cord
2. Loose connections on the inside of the computer case
3. Very dusty (dust causes lots of problems)
4. Bad power supply, test it or test the motherboard with a different power supply
5. … Start guessing.

Well, I got to step 2 and 3. I noticed a lot of dust while I was searching for loose connections. Then I noticed something:

Do you see it? Yes, these are blown capacitors (flux capacitors, if Noelle wills). In fact, I’d say these capacitors have lost their flux right out of the top. They don’t capacitate anymore.

I was actually able to get the computer to run in Windows for about 5 minutes before it shut down. That is truly amazing. If you see a capacitor with a bulging top or stuff coming out, the piece of hardware is dead (unless you are good with a soldering iron and can acquire the correct capacitor(s)… but it’s likely still dead.)

Here’s another picture at a different angle.

Countdown timers

Well, I added a countdown timer to my sideboard. Right over there –> see it? Anyway, if you follow the link and create a timer for yourself, you’ll have to be able to read the mess of javascript, because the guy’s page creates it incorrectly. For instance, when I grabbed this bit of code, I set the timer for 2010, but the javascript showed 2011. And the thing is, the mistake is in there twice.

mo=11&da=02&yr=2011

Also, this site has some really cool timers, even one I liked with the Statue of Liberty, it just didn’t fit in my sidebar (it was too wide). But perhaps it will work for you.
