Is it bad form to brag about my garden? Last year I had a miserable garden. In my defense, I had spent three months on bed rest, and then I had a newborn baby. I only had a few tomato plants, and those were thanks to my mother-in-law. This year I’m doing a lot better. First I built a third box. Everything I have is doing great. All six of my tomato plants have tomatoes on them. My cherry tomato plants have a whole bunch of tomatoes. Okay, they are all still green, but the potential is getting me excited! I planted zucchini for the first time this year, and today I saw that there are several blossoms on it. Now I just have to figure out how to prepare zucchini. My blackberry bush is loaded with blackberries. Blackberry jam – yum! I’m also planting pole beans for the first time this year. In the past I’ve always grown bush beans. Turns out I should have used taller poles. Oh well, I’m still learning. Carrots, onions, doing fine. I’m also trying butternut squash for the first time this year. It isn’t as far along because I planted it 6 weeks later than everything else. I have great hope for it too, though.
I took the girls to Tom Sawyer park this afternoon. We brought our sandbox toys, but the only one that got any attention was the bucket. Rachel would put a couple of inches of dirt/sand in it and walk it around the playground. She did this about six times. As long as she is having fun! Gabi, as usual, enjoyed eating the dirt.
