A lot has been happening, but I haven’t been blogging about it. I should have been, because I’m forgetting a lot of stuff, but I’ll do the best I can.
On Saturday morning we took care of a couple of extra kids in the morning. They had a great time playing in the sandbox. In the afternoon my chorus sang the National Anthem at the baseball game. Jeff’s dad provided us with tickets and we invited some friends to come to the game (the parents of the extra kids we took care of in the morning). We had a great time until about the sixth inning. Our team was winning, Jeff and Rachel were playing at the playground, Gabi was entertaining herself and everybody else by climbing up the stairs and smiling at people. However in the sixth inning they started to melt down and we left the game. Our friends stayed, but only for one more inning. We looked up the results of the game the next day, and our team lost in 13 innings. There was no way we would have ever lasted that long!
On Monday I took the girls to the zoo. I was excited to go because the water park there finally opened. I took another girl with me to help out (and enjoy it herself), and we spent about an hour playing in the water. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures. I only had my phone/camera with me, and I didn’t want it to get wet. We all got drenched, and we had a really good time. After the zoo we walked through the rest of the zoo, but mostly we just walked and didn’t really spend a lot of time looking at the animals. The exception is we stopped and spent a while with the giraffes. Rachel was enthralled. They were all inside so we were right next to them. She loved seeing how tall they were.
On Tuesday I dropped the girls off with a friend and I went down to girls’ camp and taught a music workshop. Okay, I didn’t really teach anything. We just sang camp songs. I did several, but there was always somebody in the crowd who wanted to lead a song or two. I learned a few new ones myself, and some of them were pretty good. I came home that night, and over night we had major thunderstorms, and into Wednesday morning. I’m pretty sure there were some soggy girls there by Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning Rachel woke up before 6:00. That is highly unusual, but even though we had her lay down in bed with us she did not go back to sleep. Fine, whatever. She would just take an early nap. We had breakfast, and Rachel laid down on the couch with her gwinkey (blanket). I took her up to her bed and let her take her nap. She slept and slept and slept. She finally woke up a little before noon. Gabi took a short nap in the morning too, from about 10:00 to 10:30. She went down for another nap at about 1:30 and slept until 3:00. Why they couldn’t coordinate and take long naps together I just don’t understand.
After Gabi woke up I took the girls to the bank where I set up and HSA. Unfortunately there was already someone being taken care of when we arrived, so we had to wait. Banks, for some reason, do not have great waiting areas that cater to children. Bummer! Nevertheless I was amazed and pleased with how good both Rachel and Gabi were. In fact Rachel took the opportunity to ask to use the potty while we were there (which she successfully did). I just don’t get potty training. She is clearly physically ready, but emotionally she’s just not there yet. I’ve tried potty training twice, and both times had very similar results. Day 1 went pretty well, all things considered. Day 2 went downhill. When Rachel is wearing a diaper she does okay asking to use the potty. With panties comes additional pressure, and she doesn’t like it so she refused to even sit on the potty, so by day 3 we’re both done. Then as soon as I give up she starts teasing me again with requests to use the bathroom. I don’t know. I give up!
